Procedure:
Today, most woman who have mastectomies are good candidates for breast reconstruction. Women choose to have their breasts reconstructed for many reasons. Following a mastectomy, some women feel a lack of wholeness or a loss of femininity that breast reconstruction may restore, and some simply don't like the hassle or worry associated with wearing an external prosthesis.

Length:
2.5 hours

Anesthesia:
General

In/Outpatient:
23 hour observation

Side Effects:
Temporary soreness, swelling, change in nipple sensation, bruising. Breast sensitive to stimulation for a few weeks.

Risks:
The possible risks involved with breast reconstruction including, but not limited to, unusual bleeding, infection, scarring, problems with skin graft donor sites, unwanted hair growth, lack of nipple sensation, allergic reactions, delayed healing and unsatisfactory results have been discussed.  All the patient’s questions have been fully answered.  Should additional questions or concerns arise after this office visit, the patient has been encouraged to schedule a second appointment to insure that all issues have been addressed prior to scheduling surgery.

2 weeks out of work
